The Laid-Back Youkai Dictionary is a book given to Abe Haruaki by Miki Rintarou, a fellow teacher at Hyakki Academy. Published in the year 2000. The tagline on the book is 'More Info Than You'll Ever Need!' However, it often contains incomplete or lacking information. This problem is made worse by the occasional stains through the book. It also does not contain an entry for Yakubyougami.

Youkai[]

The entries in the book, in order of appearance in the manga, are:

Dorotabou[]

Dorotabou

A rice paddy youkai that controls mud. They say “give me back my paddy” and, like, throw mud at you. A pain in the butt.

Mame-Danuki[]

The smallest of Tanuki-type youkai. A tanuki is said to transform by putting a leaf on its head, but the Mame-Danuki transforms by putting its ballsack on its head. Gross.

Zashiki-Warashi[]

The Zashiki-Warashi lives in people's houses and storages and plays pranks. While it's rare for them to leave, if they do--

This is as far as Haruaki is able to read, the rest of the entry rendered illegible by a coffee stain. But, later in the same chapter, the complete entry is shown. This entry appears completely different from what Haruaki read out earlier in the manga. The full entry, as displayed in the manga, is:

They settle down in a house and play pranks. When they wear red, it's a sign of incoming catastrophe.

Kamaitachi[]

They cut people up with scythe-like claws on their arms. What makes them do these things?

Mandragora[]

Apparently a plant in the nightshade family. Caution: very loud.

If you run into one of these, it'll take you soul.
